Position: Small Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery Technician (ANML HEALTH TCHN 3 VMTH0

Job Summary

We are looking for a Small Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery Technician to work alongside our world leading faculty clinicians and technicians, helping them teach the next generation of veterinarians while also serving the animals and pet owners of our community.

Under the direction of the Surgical Services Supervisor and the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service Chief, provide specialized technical support to the Dentistry Service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, safely restraining patients for oral examinations; collecting samples for diagnostic laboratory testing; preparing and setting up operating rooms; serving as an operating room circulating technician; maintaining specialized dental and surgical equipment;

and training students and residents in technical procedures such as blood collection and IV catheter placement. Additional duties include sedating and monitoring patients for diagnostic imaging procedures. Under the direction of the Anesthesia Supervisor and Anesthesia Service Chief, develop anesthesia protocols and perform anesthetic inductions; monitor, maintain, and recover anesthetized patients. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members to support and advance the objectives of the Surgery Services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
  • No Minimum Education required.
  • Experience inducing & maintaining anesthesia.
  • Experience handling and restraining canine and feline patients.
  • Experience in aseptic technique and circulation in an OR.
  • Experience in calculating drug dosages and administering medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscular or orally.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to engage effectively with diverse students, staff, clinicians, and clients and the skill to recognize and manage difficult situations, along with the skill to work cooperatively with others to foster strong team commitments towards achieving Surgery service objectives.
  • Skill to independently provide intense moment to moment monitoring and reassessment of emergent, critically ill, or anesthetized patients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Dental Radiology and charting.
  • Experience in prioritizing and organizing workload without direct supervision.
  • Experience in the use of various specialized surgical and diagnostic equipment electro-cautery, pulse ox, Doppler, capnograph and ECG.
  • Experience performing standard CPR in emergency situations.
