Under general direction of the Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Supervisor, the majority of this position will involve acting as a technical coordinator for the ECC and Urgent Care Services. Responsibilities include facilitating scheduling of ECC and Urgent Care patients for appointments, answering client phone calls to address if their pet needs to be seen on an emergent or urgent basis, and facilitating transfer of cases from referring veterinarians when clinicians are not available.
Provide para veterinary technical support to the Small Animal ECC and Urgent Care Veterinarians.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH:
Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
- No minimum education requirement.
- Experience working in a Small Animal Hospital as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant.
- Experience with animal restraint and blood draws.
- Experience communicating with clients and referring DVM.
- Interpersonal communication and customer services skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages, cultural backgrounds, perspectives to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, make referrals, and interact with the general public in a helpful and positive manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
- Experience in a small animal emergency or urgent care setting.
- Strong organizational skills.

Department Overview
The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) provides clinical case material to support teaching programs and serves the public with 24/7 care for cats and dogs. Our board-certified faculty specialists lead the team to provide immediate recognition, evaluation, and care of patients with acute illness or injury, and continued care for critically ill patients. The ICU is staffed by board-certified faculty specialists in critical care, staff veterinarians, residents, veterinary technicians, and veterinary students.
