Job Summary Want to be part of the most innovative veterinary team in the country? We are looking for a Small Animal Patient Care Intermediate and General Ward Technician to work alongside our world leading faculty clinicians and technicians, helping them teach the next generation of veterinarians while also serving the animals and pet owners of our community.
Under the direction of the Small Animal Patient Care Supervisor, provide para veterinary technical support to the Small Animal Clinic Veterinarians. On a daily basis, responsible for the treatment of patients, blood bank support, student instruction, clinician support and facility support.

Shift Differentials - CE & Other Benefits – $650 Continuing Education annual allowance; 40 hours Paid CE annually (pro-rated based on appointment %); $100 monthly stipend for RVTs;

Recruitment Period – Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
- No minimum education required.
- Experience working in a Small Animal Hospital as a veterinary technician.
- Experience administering medications.
- Experience collecting blood.
- Skill to independently provide intense moment to moment monitoring and reassessment of emergent, critically ill patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis.
- Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
- Experience catheterizing blood vessels and urinary tract.
- Experience in aseptic nursing and sterile techniques.
- Experience in emergency critical care medicine.
- 50% - Small Animal Clinic Patient Care in the Intermediate Care Ward
- 30% - Small Animal Patient Care in the General Ward
- 10% - Quasi Instructor
- 5% - Facility Care
- 5% - Clinician Support
The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional veterinarians, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.
Our Small animal patient care service consists of highly qualified Registered Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants. The patient care service provides nursing care to a wide range of patients that include Neurology, Internal Medicine (Soft Tissue and Orthopedic cases). Small Animal Patient Care includes our Intermediate Care Ward (ICW) which is a step down from our Intensive care unit. The patient care team provides excellent care to our patients while having the opportunity to participate in the teaching experience for the veterinary students and gain valuable knowledge learning from our board-certified clinicians and faculty.
