Overview
Small Animal and Critical Care Service Veterinary Technician to work alongside our world leading faculty clinicians and technicians, helping teach the next generation of veterinarians while serving the animals and pet owners of our community. Part of the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital team with the following benefits.
Responsibilities- Provide nursing care to emergency room or intensive care unit patients using established protocols set up by small animal emergency and critical care faculty.
- Work independently under these guidelines in a teaching environment, including providing quasi-instruction to veterinary students.
- Facility maintenance for the unit and temporary support to other VMTH departments as needed.
- Adhere to shift schedule and contribute to high-quality patient care, teaching, and support activities.
- Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
- No minimum education required.
- Experience independently providing intense moment-to-moment monitoring and reassessment of emergency, critically ill, or anesthetized patients.
- Experience working in a small animal clinic as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant.
- Experience giving medications.
- Experience using patient monitoring equipment.
- Experience drawing blood samples.
- Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with a diverse group of students, staff, clinicians and clients and manage difficult or unpleasant situations.
- Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
- Experience placing multi-lumen catheters in peripheral or central veins and securing/maintaining catheters.
- Experience in training and directing others.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) provides clinical case material to support teaching programs on a 24-hour basis. Its objectives include training veterinary students, graduate clinical students, and advancing veterinary medical knowledge; providing veterinary services to the public; and serving as a referral center for veterinarians.
Position Information- Salary range: $31.32/hr - $47.40/hr this position may be eligible for a hiring bonus
