Position descriptionDr. Kassim Al-Khatib's lab in the Department of Plant Sciences is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Scholar to provide significant and creative research contribution to programs related to weed management in rice. The candidate should possess the subject matter expertise and the creative energy necessary to function at a high level of competence. The Postdoctoral Scholar will carry out statistical and data analysis, write reports and journal articles for previously done research on new experimental herbicide.
In addition, the Postdoctoral Scholar is required to hold valid driver’s license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program. This position is for two years and will be at 100% time, paid according to the University of California Postdoctoral Scholar pay scale.
85% Responsibility:
- A. Organize and lead innovative data analysis focusing on new experimental herbicide for California rice cropping systems. This will include collecting and analyzing data across a wide range of locations and greenhouse research.
- B. Make substantive scientific, scholarly, and intellectual contributions by writing reports to funding agencies, giving talks and seminars at industry and scientific meetings, and publishing results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
15% Responsibility:
- A. Participate in professional societies and conferences both in California and nationally appropriate to his/her specific field.
- B. Engage in public outreach activities that include presenting scientific research results at professional meetings, field days, trainings and workshops and providing relevant advice to individuals such as growers, other stakeholders or public agencies.
Per APM 390, a Postdoctoral Scholar requires a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D.) or the foreign equivalent. The Department will not offer visa sponsorship for this position. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they are legally authorized to work in the United States.
QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at time of application)
- A. PhD in Weed Science or closely related field (must be obtained at the time of appointment)
- B. Experience in rice production system
- C. Experience with herbicide use and application
- D. Strong knowledge in data analysis and experimental design
- E. Strong publication records
- F. Valid California driver license
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
- G. Herbicide mode of action
- H. Possess California pesticide application license
