Summary

The Vice President of R&D and Regulatory is a strategic and operational leader responsible for advancing Pro Farm Group’s innovation pipeline while ensuring global regulatory compliance and market access. This role integrates scientific discovery, product development, and regulatory strategy to deliver differentiated biological and biostimulant solutions to growers worldwide.

The VP will lead multidisciplinary teams across research, development, field testing, and regulatory affairs, aligning scientific innovation with commercial priorities. This leader plays a critical role in shaping the company’s long‑term technology roadmap and ensuring successful product commercialization across global markets, with responsibilities for teams in both Davis, CA and Helsinki, Finland.

Key Responsibilities R&D Strategy and Innovation
  • Define and execute the company’s R&D strategy aligned with business objectives and growth targets
  • Lead development of novel biologicals, biostimulants, and crop inputs from internal or external sources at various stages of development.
  • Oversee pipeline prioritization, stage‑gate processes, and resource allocation
  • Drive innovation through internal capabilities and external partnerships (universities, contract research, etc.)
  • Ensure scientific rigor and data integrity across all research programs
  • Translate early‑stage discoveries into commercially viable products
  • Partner with Commercial, Marketing, and Product Management teams to align development with market needs
  • Oversee field trials, validation, and technical positioning
  • Support product launch strategies with robust technical data and claims
Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
  • Develop and execute global regulatory strategies to enable timely product registrations
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., EPA, state‑level, international authorities)
  • Manage regulatory submissions, dossiers, and agency interactions
  • Monitor evolving regulatory landscapes and proactively adapt company strategy
  • Mitigate regulatory risks impacting pipeline and commercial portfolio
Leadership & Team Development
  • Build and lead high‑performing R&D and Regulatory teams
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and cross‑functional collaboration
  • Develop and maintain organizational capabilities in key scientific areas.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the executive team on scientific and regulatory matters.
External Engagement & Thought Leadership
  • Represent the company with regulators, industry groups, and scientific communities
  • Build strategic relationships with external partners and stakeholders
  • Enhance company credibility through publications, presentations, and industry engagement.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Ph.D. in Plant Science, Microbiology, Agronomy, Chemistry, or related field (preferred); advanced degree required
  • 12–15+ years of progressive leadership experience in agricultural R&D and regulatory affairs
  • Strong experience in biologicals, biostimulants, crop protection, or related sectors
  • Proven track record of bringing products from concept to commercialization
  • Experience in project management and systems management
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. and international regulatory frameworks
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and complex programs
  • Deep scientific expertise combined with business acumen
  • Strong communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts into business insights
  • Experience managing budgets, timelines, and external partnerships
  • Background in portfolio/product management and executive‑level reporting
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid
  • Up to 10% travel for conferences, site visits, or partnerships.
