Junior Specialist; Baldwin Lab

Overview

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for one 50-percent time Junior Specialist position in enzyme purification and kinetic analysis in the Enoch Baldwin Lab.

• Research (90%):
  This Junior Specialist position is directed at carrying out reliable kinetic analyses of Escherichia coli CTP synthetase (EcCTPS) to understand its regulation by small molecule substrates, products, and inhibitors. Purifications of wildtype and mutant EcCTPS proteins will be performed. The work involves using spectrophotometric methods to assay EcCTPS activities. Preparation and precise standardization of assay reagents and buffers using standard analytical methods will be required.
  
  The Junior Specialist will be responsible for workup and analysis of the experimental data produced, familiarization with published and unpublished lab work relevant to these studies, and close collaboration with the Principal Investigator in designing and executing experiments, interpreting data, formulating hypotheses, and conducting follow-up experiments. The Junior Specialist will archive data electronically, create written descriptions, and produce publication-quality figures for any publishable data.
  
  The goal is to complete the data required for ongoing work for a publication and to perform follow-up work arising from manuscript review within the hiring period. Any work contributing to a figure or providing key evidence in a publication will be credited by co-authorship. Regular meetings with the PI are expected, with a schedule not exceeding 20 hours per week.

  Maintain lab cleanliness and order, inventory critical lab materials, and monitor compliance with safety regulations.
