Assistant Professional Researcher – Land Use Research
The UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS‑Davis) seeks to hire a researcher to study land use policies in California, the adoption of such policies, and their implications for transportation, as well as the implications of transportation policy for land use. The researcher will develop an effective research program encompassing these topics, taking into consideration the relationships between state, regional, and local policies.
Position OverviewSalary range: $93,400 – $104,500 (annual).

- Develop research protocols and write grant proposals.
- Advise graduate and undergraduate students.
- Conduct independent and collaborative research projects.
- Analyze data and synthesize literature.
- Publish in academic journals and present at academic and professional conferences.
- Participate in professional societies or other educational and research organizations.
- Serve on editorial boards and review manuscripts and grants.
- Disseminate research results to policymakers using policy briefs, webinars, and one‑on‑one engagement.
- Ph.D. in urban planning, transportation planning, public policy, political science, or another transportation‑related field.
- Postdoctoral and mentorship experience with a record of publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Designing and conducting research, including surveys and interviews, and experience developing research protocols and obtaining IRB approval.
- Qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including statistics.
- Experience managing confidential personal data securely and knowledge of IRB requirements related to personally identifiable information.
- Competence in at least one of the following statistical software packages: SPSS, STATA, R, or JMP.
- Demonstrated ability to secure research funding and coordinate research programs with state and federal agencies.
- Strong interpersonal collaboration and networking skills.
