Junior Specialist Salary range: $4,583.33 per month (step
1) to $4,883.33 per month (step

- Design and perform studies under the direction of the Principal Investigator and PhD Student supervision.
- Plan and execute experiments involving tissue culture stimulation of CD4 T cells with a bacterial expression library. Optimize and troubleshoot the assay, including flow cytometry, cell culture, bacterial culture inoculation, cytokine ELISAs, and bioinformatic generation of expression vectors.
- Collect and help summarize laboratory data and assist in data analyses as appropriate.
- Contribute to scholarly scientific manuscripts by writing materials and methods sections, creating tables and figures for presentation.
- Participate in animal use protocol reporting and compliance, and write laboratory protocols and SOPs.
- Help train undergraduate and rotation students as appropriate.
- Assist with lab management and coordinate supplies needed for the day‑to‑day running of the lab (e.g., ordering supplies and maintaining the lab).
- Professional Competence (5%):
Participate in local and regional meetings and attend seminars as appropriate. - University and Public Service (5%):
Mentor undergraduate lab assistants, participate in laboratory, departmental, and group meetings, and other activities as applicable.
- Bachelor's degree in life sciences.
- An understanding of biology and basic laboratory skills.
- Good communication skills and record keeping.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Desire to learn new laboratory techniques.
- Experience with cell culture and sterile technique.
- Experience with basic molecular biology techniques (pipetting, multichannel pipetting, making solutions).
- Experience with ELISA and flow cytometry is a plus.
