Performance in Research (90%):
This entry‑level position requires design and execution of multi‑pronged experimental strategies to elucidate acylsugar biochemical pathways in Solanaceae and assess herbivore responses to distinct acylsugar phenotypes. The candidate will:
- Develop and troubleshoot protocols for independent research projects, including data interpretation and follow‑up planning.
- Molecular cloning & transgenics: generate constructs for heterologous expression in
E. coli and N. benthamiana, and perform virus‑ or CRISPR‑mediated mutagenesis in solanaceous species (e.g., tomato). - Biochemistry: purify proteins and conduct in‑vitro enzyme assays with LC‑MS analysis.
- Genotyping & phenotyping: characterize CRISPR mutants and conduct insect performance assays.
- Summarize data, prepare figures, and assist in publishing manuscripts and writing grant proposals.
- Maintain laboratory supplies, equipment, and safety compliance, and contribute to plant care and general lab hygiene.
- Attend weekly lab meetings and journal clubs; participate in seminars and present research findings; engage with professional interest groups.
