Developing a Multi‑Sectoral Drought Early Warning Dashboard for California (desired start date: Fall 2026).
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (CEE) at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate focusing on the development of a drought early warning system for California under the supervision of Professor Alvar Escriva‑Bou. The project’s main goals are to develop sector‑specific drought indices and expected impacts across California, co‑develop metrics with stakeholders, and finally create a decision‑support web platform.
The postdoctoral research associate may also collaborate in other projects related to the socio‑economic impacts of water allocation.
This is a two‑year, full‑time, in‑person position beginning in Fall 2026 and located in Davis, California.
Required Qualifications- Ph.D. in Civil & Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- Strong understanding of drought characterization, agricultural and urban systems, and their linkages with water supply systems.
- Coding skills (Python).
- Strong communication skills in oral and written English.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Water systems modeling.
- Web‑based dashboards, decision‑support tools, online data visualization.
- Machine learning approaches.
- Water economics and policy.
