Join us as a Waste Zero Specialist 1.

Role

Under close supervision, the Waste Zero Specialist 1 designs, coordinates, implements, and administers waste diversion programs, engages key commercial and residential customers, collaborates with local jurisdictions, educates communities, and performs waste auditing services.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Complete waste and diversion assessments and provide diversion strategies.
  • Follow up on action items and document interactions for reporting.
  • Prepare and deliver speeches and presentations to customers.
  • Coordinate recycling/landfill diversion programs with local jurisdictions and educate customers.
  • Contribute content for media, ads, reports, and other communications.
  • Represent the company to city staff, elected officials, regional organizations, and chambers.
  • Manage, update, and secure new contracts from key commercial recycling customers.
  • Survey routes to verify rates, services, and efficiencies.
  • Review audit reports on contamination and diversion issues and provide management with findings.
  • Monitor and research public policy issues affecting operations.
  • Participate in team projects as assigned.
  • Maintain and update all required documents.
  • Support and expand local buy‑back centers.
  • Work a flexible schedule based on business needs.
  • Travel frequently to off‑site meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • One year of related experience in resource recovery or equivalent training.
  • Knowledge of technical and professional practices, laws, and programs in the field.
  • Awareness of current marketing, communications, and public outreach trends.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
