Position: Civil Estimator          at Garrett Excavating LLC        in        Dayton,        Kentucky

Estimator Position

This position is where our production process begins. An Estimator is responsible for analyzing and evaluating potential site work projects, creating estimates, developing relationships with developers, general contractors, and others in order to expand our reach and likelihood of securing awarded work. The Estimator will work closely with the Ownership, Field Leadership, and the office team to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the bidding process.

Successful bids will be managed through the handoff procedures to the Field Leadership team.

Primary Duties
  • Lead by example in all aspects of work.
  • Remain responsible and focused on personal and company growth.
  • Review and analyze bid requests, project plans and bid documents, and contract documents to understand the scope of work and project requirements for all potential and awarded projects.
  • Collaborate with owners, developers, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather information needed to prepare accurate and competitive bids.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates and create bid proposals in accordance with company standards and client requirements.
  • Visit sites as needed for evaluation and accurate bidding.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of project costs and rates, including labor, materials, and equipment expenses.
  • Identifying potential cost savings and recommending value engineering solutions to increase quality of bids, potential long term project cost savings for clients, and profitability for Garrett Excavating.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, developers, project teams in order to maintain a relational approach to the bidding process.
  • Lead and deliver post-bid analysis to identify areas for improvement in the bidding process.
Additional Duties
  • Assist with awarded project tracking, permitting processes, and continued RFI requests throughout the lifecycle of the project, including change orders and additional cost evaluations as needed.
  • Maintain relationships with project leads on awarded projects in order to support Garrett Excavating in delivering on quality and service proposed to the client.
  • Contribute to the development of Garrett Excavating staff through coaching, mentoring, and training as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating, with a strong understanding of civil site development.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts, legal requirements, and industry standards.
  • Proficient in the use of takeoff software such as Stack.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Coachable and eager to learn.
  • Team player who is motivated to succeed.
  • Problem solver who looks to create solutions.
  • High level of attention to detail and cost analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous leadership/management experience.
  • OSHA 30 Construction Certification.
  • Usable knowledge of construction best practices.
  • Strong site excavation and development construction management knowledge.
  • Excellent technical skills and understanding of construction methods, contracts, and blueprints.
  • Usable knowledge of computer and mobile software's.
