Senior Staff Accountant

Position Summary

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization's government accounting operations while ensuring compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and DCAA requirements. This role performs month‑end close activities, prepares incurred cost submissions, supports government audits, maintains financial records within Deltek Costpoint, and partners with program management, contracts, and accounting teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and contract execution.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist with the monthly and year‑end close processes, including account reconciliations, support schedules, and financial analyses.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepare annual Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS) in accordance with DCAA requirements and applicable government regulations.
  • Support DCAA and other government audits by preparing schedules, responding to audit requests, and maintaining required documentation.
  • Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns and annual 1099 filings.
  • Review direct labor records, travel vouchers, vendor invoices, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance with contract requirements.
  • Track subcontractor and consultant labor and travel invoices, process invoices for payment, and ensure timely inclusion in customer billings to the U.S. Government.
  • Enter and maintain financial and contract data within Deltek Costpoint and other corporate financial management systems.
  • Utilize financial and labor data to support contract execution, forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Collaborate with Program Management, Contracts Administration, and Finance personnel to support contract performance and financial reporting.
  • Assist with contract pricing, proposal preparation, and cost analysis as needed.
  • Provide backup support for Finance Systems Administration and other accounting functions.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives designed to strengthen internal controls and increase operational efficiency.
  • Perform special projects and other ad hoc accounting assignments as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including government contract accounting.
  • Hands‑on experience with Deltek Costpoint is required;
    Costpoint conversion or system implementation experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS).
  • Experience supporting DCAA audits and other governmental audits.
  • Strong understanding of FAR, CAS, GAAP, and government contracting compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end close activities.
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting, labor distribution, and indirect cost structures is preferred.
  • Experience with sales tax filings and annual 1099 reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, lookup functions (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP), formulas, formatting, and data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Deltek Time & Expense and government contract billing.
