A growing manufacturing organization is seeking a hands-on Plant Accountant to support the financial operations of its facility. This position combines general accounting and financial reporting responsibilities with manufacturing cost accounting.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable participating in month-end close, preparing and reviewing financial information, reconciling accounts, and analyzing plant performance. This person should also understand how material, labor, overhead, inventory, and production activity affect cost of goods sold, margins, and overall financial results.
Key Responsibilities General Accounting and Financial Reporting- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Assist with the preparation and review of plant financial statements
- Analyze balance sheet and income statement activity for accuracy
- Provide commentary on gross profit, operating expenses, and financial variances
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Assist with accounts payable, accruals, fixed assets, and other accounting functions as needed
- Maintain accurate financial records and support internal and external audits
- Ensure accounting activity follows company policies and applicable accounting standards
- Maintain and review standard costs for raw materials, labor, overhead, work in process, and finished goods
- Support annual cost rolls and periodic updates to product costs
- Review bills of materials, routings, and new item setups for accuracy
- Prepare and analyze manufacturing cost reports
- Investigate purchase price, labor, material usage, overhead, scrap, and production variances
- Monitor inventory transactions, adjustments, reserves, and cycle-count results
- Explain how operational and costing changes affect inventory, cost of goods sold, gross margin, and profitability
- Identify cost discrepancies and work with plant leadership to determine root causes
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, Purchasing, Supply Chain, and Finance to improve cost accuracy and financial performance
- Recommend process improvements that strengthen reporting, controls, and plant profitability
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Willing to work on-site in Dayton, Ohio
- Previous accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of general accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Experience with standard costing, inventory accounting, BOMs, and manufacturing variance analysis
- Ability to interpret financial results and clearly explain what is driving performance
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working within an ERP system
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage responsibilities independently while collaborating across departments
- Experience supporting the complete financial activity of a manufacturing plant
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, fixed assets, and internal controls
- Experience improving accounting or costing processes within an ERP environment
- CPA, CMA, or progress toward a professional certification is helpful but not required
