Overview
Plant Manager (Open) — Dayton, OH (AMG) – ASU
The primary function of this job is to operate medium-sized Airgas facilities safely and reliably by complying with regulatory requirements, developing and leading personnel, managing costs effectively, and developing personal skills and competencies.
Responsibilities- Operate the facility in compliance with all local and federal regulations (FDA, OSHA, EPA, DOT, cGMP) and company policies.
- Lead safety initiatives, maintain training matrices and Airgas University training, and uphold site safety for employees, contractors, visitors, and neighbors.
- Maintain and manage Key Operating Documents, ensure red-lines are updated, and understand the content and significance of each document.
- Make plant and process decisions, perform process troubleshooting, and delegate authority to trained team members.
- Foster positive relationships with customers and intercompany departments; deliver required product quality and quantity.
- Execute predictive and preventive maintenance to ensure long-term reliability and safety; develop annual maintenance plans and turn-around planning as needed.
- Collaborate to maintain high housekeeping standards to support the company image.
- Operate in compliance with all applicable regulations and licenses, provide regulatory training, maintain documentation, and investigate incidents with corrective actions.
- Maintain hazard analyses, understand hazards and safeguards, and adhere to Management of Change procedures.
- Ensure performance evaluations, hiring, promotions, and assignments are free of discrimination in line with EEOC guidelines.
- Support safety culture, model exemplary safety behavior, and implement the Qualification and Training program for Production Technicians.
- Conduct annual performance reviews, develop individual development plans, and provide training and coaching to improve performance.
- Support management decisions and comply with administrative and operational policies and procedures.
- Monitor operating costs within approved budgets and identify opportunities to reduce costs within delegated authority.
- Participate in Capital Planning and Yearly Expense Budgeting; manage overtime within established limits; improve efficiency and availability; utilize national purchasing and frame agreements.
- Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree preferred; equivalent combinations are acceptable.
- Minimum 6 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a process industry.
- Technical understanding of Air Separation or Carbon Dioxide liquefaction plant processes or relevant process industry experience.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants (Process Safety Management, OSHA, EPA, EEOC guidelines, FDA where applicable, state/local requirements).
- Strong computer and business application skills; ability to troubleshoot plant machinery, including valves and rotating equipment.
- Ability to deliver and explain training material to operating personnel; highly organized with strong time management and plant filing systems.
- Ability to read and red-line key operating documents; working knowledge of commercial agreements and Airgas customer relations.
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills; general understanding of accounting and plant operating budgets.
- Must have reliable transportation; valid U.S. work authorization; this position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.
- Chemical industry experience is preferred.
Ability to work extended hours as business needs dictate; minimal travel required (typically 1 to 6 trips per year).
Work EnvironmentVisitation to various Airgas and customer sites with varying environments, layouts, and accessibility.
