Plant Manager
Location:
Dayton, OH (AMG) – ASU
Operates a medium‑sized Airgas facility safely and reliably by complying with regulatory requirements, leading personnel, managing costs, and developing personal skills.
Responsibilities- Fully support, accurately complete, and maintain all company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, and documentation as required.
- Be accountable for site safety and employees, contractors, visitors, and neighbors.
- Meet and advance company safety standards, demonstrate strong safety leadership, and implement training matrix and Airgas University training for the site.
- Guide stewardship of Key Operating Documents, maintain updated red‑lines and demonstrate detailed understanding of content.
- Make plant and process decisions, perform process troubleshooting, establish clear delegation of authority to trained team members, foster positive customer and inter‑company relationships, deliver required quality and quantity of product, and execute predictive and preventive maintenance to ensure long‑term reliability and safety while minimizing unplanned maintenance.
- Develop annual maintenance plans and turnaround planning as needed; collaborate with the team to maintain high housekeeping standards to exemplify and improve the company image.
- Operate the facility in compliance with all local and federal regulations (FDA, OSHA, EPA, DOT, cGMP, etc.) and company policies.
- Maintain and comply with all necessary licenses and permits, provide all regulatory training, and maintain documentation, reporting, and investigating all incidents with corrective action.
- Keep plant hazard analysis current and display thorough knowledge of possible hazards and associated safeguards, adhering to Management of Change procedure.
- Ensure all performance evaluations, hiring, promotions and assignments are free of discrimination; comply with EEOC.
- Model exemplary safety behavior, lead by personal example and work to achieve “Zero Accidents” by fostering a collaborative safety culture.
- Implement and ensure compliance to the qualification and training program for production technicians.
- Conduct an annual performance review with each employee, implement development plans, provide training and coaching, and provide input to management decisions.
- Understand, monitor and optimize operating costs within authorized budget and identify opportunities to reduce costs; participate in capital planning and yearly expense budgeting.
- Control overtime within established limits and continuously improve efficiency and availability indicators using national purchasing agreements and frame agreements.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 6 years of mechanical maintenance and operations experience in continuous process industry.
- Technical and working understanding of air separation or carbon dioxide liquefaction plant process or applicable plant industry experience.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants, including Process Safety Management, OSHA, EPA, EEOC, FDA regulations, state and local requirements.
- Strong computer and business application skills.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting plant machinery, including hands‑on familiarity with valves and rotating equipment.
- Ability to deliver and explain training material to operating personnel.
- Extremely organized and effective at time management – able to establish and maintain a plant filing system and control engineering documents.
- Ability to read and red‑line key operating documents.
- Working knowledge of commercial agreements and Airgas customer relations.
- Proven track record of team leadership and excellent communication skills.
- General understanding of accounting principles and working knowledge of plant operating budget.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Valid U.S. employment authorization; no visa sponsorship required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical discipline.
- Direct experience within the chemical industry.
Ability to work extended hours as business needs dictate. Minimal travel required – typically 1–6 trips per year.
