Construction Services Technician; Kettering, OH

KBJW, a leading engineering firm with over 30 years of experience in the Mid-Atlantic Region, is recruiting a Construction Services Technician to join its Kettering, OH office.

The Construction Services Technician will perform basic testing and inspection services for various aspects of construction activities, ensuring compliance with project schedules and client expectations.

• Field observation and testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials.
• Communicate with contractors and managers regarding project status and requirements.
• Complete site visit reports daily.
• Attend project related meetings with clients, owners, and/or government agencies.
• Develop and maintain client relationships.
• Assist with resolution of technical problems onsite.
• Work closely with Manager to complete projects within schedules.
• Adhere to company safety policies and use of supplied personal protective equipment.
• Travel to other firm offices, client offices, and project sites.
• Occasional overnight travel may be required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma.
• 0–2 years of experience.
• Basic technical writing skills.
• Great attitude and a desire to grow professionally.
• Ability to read construction plans.
• Ability to become proficient at using firm’s field-testing equipment, including nuclear density gauge, concrete testing, soils, and other equipment.
• Ability to prepare accurate daily field reports and meet required deadlines.
• Strong organizational ability and verbal communication skills.
• A flexible working style with the ability to work independently and within a team.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• ACI Concrete Field-Testing Tech Certification preferred.

• May require the ability to sit for long periods, stand, walk, and manipulate (carry, lift, move) light to medium weights of 25–50 pounds.
• Ability to walk construction job sites and climb ladders is necessary.
• Requires good hand‑eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate technical equipment, read technical information and analyze complex data.
• Occasional travel to offsite locations to perform work and attend meetings may be required.
• May need to be on project sites for extended periods of time.
• Must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle.
• Ability to work night shift as needed.
