Reporting to the Corporate Director of Facilities, the Director of Construction has operational responsibility for construction activities, including planning, materials purchasing, subcontracting, project management, status reporting, and scheduling. The Director develops departmental plans, processes, system standards, budgets, and schedules, and directs their implementation to achieve departmental goals and optimize construction delivery.

Job DetailsReporting to the Corporate Director of Facilities, the Director of Construction has operational responsibility for construction activities, including planning, materials purchasing, subcontracting, project management, status reporting, and scheduling. The Director develops departmental plans, processes, system standards, budgets, and schedules, and directs their implementation to achieve departmental goals and optimize construction delivery.
The Director collaborates with contractors, vendors, Dayton Children’s leaders, and stakeholders to advance construction projects and ensure effective project delivery.
The Director ensures the department and its projects comply with applicable regulations, code requirements, hospital-wide infection control standards, interim life safety protocols, and safety programs and policies.
The Director leads a team that includes one manager, three project coordinators, one supervisor, and approximately seven technicians across two large campuses and 31 off‑site locations.
Required QualificationsDepartment Specific Job Details:
- Associate's degree; preferably in Construction Management or Business, or related field in related discipline.
- 7-10 years of project or construction management
- Competency with Microsoft Office suite applications
- Effective communication and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- 7+ years’ experience preferred in healthcare facilities management or construction management.
- Knowledge of TJC/CMS Physical Environment Standards
- Project or construction management
- Prefer knowledge of project cost accounting and work scheduling principles
- Prefer proficiency with software programs as they relate to facility planning, project management and scheduling, budget and cost accounting
