Job Description
We are seeking a Hepatologist to join Premier Health and play a key role in building and shaping a growing hepatology program. This position offers balanced inpatient and outpatient clinical practice, with evolving opportunities in teaching, research, and program development as the academic mission expands.
The ideal candidate is a clinically strong physician who is motivated to help develop infrastructure, establish best practices, interested in innovative approaches to care and contribute to the long‑term growth of hepatology services.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Care (Primary Focus – Year1)
- Provide comprehensive care for patients with acute and chronic liver disease in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Diagnose and manage conditions including:
- Cirrhosis and complications (ascites, HE, varices)
- Viral hepatitis (HBV, HCV)
- MASLD/MASH
- Alcohol‑related liver disease
- Liver masses including Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)
- Provide inpatient consultative services and manage transitions of care to outpatient follow‑up
- Collaborate with gastroenterology, surgery, oncology, radiology, and primary care
- Perform, supervise and interpret hepatology‑related diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as appropriate
- Assist in building a comprehensive hepatology service line, including care pathways, protocols, and clinical workflows
- Support growth initiatives such as fibrosis programs, fatty liver clinics, or liver cancer programs
- Contribute to quality improvement efforts and establishment of clinical metrics
- Participate in teaching medical students, residents, and future fellows as programs develop
- Contribute to curriculum development and clinical education infrastructure
- Engage in scholarly activities over time (case reports, QI projects, clinical research)
- Opportunities to participate in clinical research and trials as the program grows
- Collaborate with institutional partners to build a hepatology research portfolio
- Initial focus may include quality improvement and outcomes‑based projects
- Ground‑floor opportunity to help build a hepatology program
- Ability to shape clinical workflows and long‑term strategy
- Gradual integration into teaching and research aligned with program growth
- Collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
- Leadership support for innovation and program expansion
- Development of subspecialty clinics
- Expansion into clinical trials and translational research
- Participation in fellowship training programs
- Potential leadership roles as the program matures
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
- Fellowship training in Hepatology
- Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Ohio
- Commitment to high‑quality, patient‑centered care
- Interest in program building
- Comfort practicing in a growth‑oriented, evolving clinical environment
- Strong collaboration and interdisciplinary communication skills
- Interest in teaching and academic career development (even if early stage)
- Experience or interest in liver disease quality metrics and population health
