Job Description
  • This position is located ON‑SITE in Dayton, Ohio.
  • Prelicensure Clinical Instructors (Hourly) are subject‑matter experts who teach and mentor students during experiential clinical coursework in remote/onsite environments.
  • The role varies in instructional methods based on student and facility needs and has a team component to support an assigned group of students.
  • Faculty interacts with students in both group and one‑on‑one settings and ensures student success within their clinical placement setting.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Act as a steward for carrying out WGU’s mission and strategic vision.
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment, effectiveness, and consistency.
  • Serve as a professional role model for students in communication, ethical comportment, and problem‑solving.
  • Provide expertise in an assigned content area and maintain current knowledge in the field.
  • Undergo the implementation of the philosophy and goals of the program.
  • Foster student learning through innovative teaching practices, including clinical duties.
  • Respond with urgency to meet student needs and communicate professionally and respectfully.
  • Makes appropriate student referrals for remediation or other needs, utilizing WGU policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with the student's assigned coach/preceptor regarding progress and concerns.
  • Provide final review and approval for student's clinical time.
  • Offer proactive support and outreach to assigned students.
  • Use technology‑based teaching and communication platforms to aid students in competency development.
  • Submit electronic clinical student evaluation forms after completion of clinical intensive.
  • Collaborate with other professionals within the university to promote a positive, student‑obsessed atmosphere.
  • Respond urgently to changing requirements, priorities, and short deadlines.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant state regulations.
  • Conduct both in‑person and remote methods of student evaluation.

Job Qualifications

Minimum:

  • MSN degree and current, unencumbered license.
  • Two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated subject‑matter expertise in job‑relevant content or practice area.

Preferred:

  • Doctorate or terminal degree in a specific content area.
  • Strong experience with distance education and distance learning students.
  • Terminal degree and all applicable licenses or certifications.
  • Prior experience in clinical teaching/nursing education.
Department Specific

Minimum Qualifications (Leavitt School of Health)
  • Master’s degree in nursing;
    Education verified.
  • Two years minimum nursing experience.
  • History of continuous advancement and success in roles requiring creative problem‑solving and collaboration.
