SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Executive Principal and Director of Pathways, plan

and implement appropriate teaching and learning strategies for the Animal Science

pathway. This role focuses on delivering a comprehensive curriculum-including

Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (AFNR), Animal Science and Technology, Companion Animal Selection, Nutrition and Management, and Veterinary Science-to

prepare students for careers in the veterinary and animal sciences industries.

QUALIFICATIONS

?

Education:

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a related academic or technical

subject area is preferred.

? Certification:
Valid Ohio teaching license for high school grades (e.g., 4-12, 7
- 12, or Career-Technical license in Agriculture) or the ability to obtain.

?

Experience:

Three to five years or more of industry experience in veterinary

medicine, animal husbandry, or agricultural science is preferred.

? Driver Certification:
Ability to obtain Ohio School Van Driver Certification for

transporting students to field trips or CTSO (e.g., FFA) activities.

? Background Check:
Must pass a criminal background check and comply with

drug-free workplace rules.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

? Instructional Delivery:
Create engaging hands-on lessons aligned with Ohio

Career-Technical content standards for veterinary science, animal management,

and AFNR.

? Technical Training:
Instruct students in veterinary pharmacology, radiology

imaging techniques, principles of surgery, and safe laboratory skills.

? Animal Care & Husbandry:
Teach responsible animal management principles,

including nutrition, breeding programs, facility design, and general care practices

for both companion and production animals.

? Clinical

Skills:

Guide students in humanely handling, restraining, and examining

animals to evaluate general health conditions and interpret behavioral patterns.

? Safety & Biosecurity:
Implement and enforce protocols for biosecurity to

prevent cross-site contamination and ensure food safety and animal welfare.

? Professional Readiness:
Integrate 21st-century employability skills, leadership

development through FFA, and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE)

programs into daily instruction.

? Student Assessment:
Analyze student data from formative and summative

assessments to differentiate instruction and ensure mastery of technical

competencies.

CORE COMPETENCIES

? Veterinary Medical Knowledge:
Mastery of animal anatomy, physiology, disease causes/symptoms, and preventative health management.

? Scientific Inquiry:
Proficiency in teaching inquiry-based research, statistical

methods, and the application of technology in animal information systems.

? Industry Compliance:
Knowledge of legal compliance, ethics, and

professionalism within the veterinary and agricultural industries.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

? Frequent standing/walking for extended periods in a classroom, lab, or animal

facility environment.

? Repetitive motions such as bending, reaching, stretching, and kneeling.

? Ability to occasionally lift and/or move items up to 40 lbs.

? Work is performed in classroom and animal lab settings; subject to frequent

interruptions and exposure to animals and biological materials.
