General

Job Description:

Upper Valley Career Center is in need of Substitute Instructors (both academic and career technical). Substitute Instructors will fulfill responsibilities for the curriculum and students of the respective grades/subjects being taught in the absence of the regular instructor.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

* Instruct students in the matter using textbooks, lecture material, technology, audiovisual aids, or equipment.

* Maintain daily attendance records.

* Maintain discipline in the classroom and on the general property of the school.

* Conduct themselves in a professional manner with students, parents, and staff.

* Perform related duties as directed.

Qualifications:

* Must have a valid teacher's license or substitute license commensurate with the grade levels/subject areas being taught OR be eligible to obtain proper licensure.

* Able to effectively discipline students in a trustful manner.

* Able to interact cooperatively with peers and supervisors in a manner conforming to the school philosophy.

* Able to work in a collegial manner with coworkers.

* Able to take on additional responsibilities in a spirit of cooperation and teamwork.

* Able to maintain an atmosphere of trust, fairness, and respect and be mutually supportive with coworkers.

* Able to maintain strict confidentiality.

* Meets all mandated health screening requirements.

* Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.

* Maintains compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.

Salary:

Appropriate placement on the Miscellaneous/Intermittent Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience. Salary will be $120.00 per day. Maximum 839 hours per year. One-year contract with opportunity for renewal. Substitutes may receive $200 additional compensation for the equivalent of every ten full days worked throughout the  school year. Long term substitutes will be placed on the certificated salary schedule (based on level of education, Step "0") on the 61st day of consecutive placement.

Other Benefits:

State Teachers Retirement System and Worker's Compensation. Upon hire, additional benefits may be offered depending upon hours worked, job classification, and placement on the Upper Valley Career Center Salary Schedule. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.

Performance Evaluation:

Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.
