Sinclair Community College grants more Firefighter, Fire Inspector, and Fire Instructor certifications than any other institution in the state of Ohio. The Sinclair Fire Academy is an Ohio-chartered program that provides fire science training to firefighters, investigators, and inspectors throughout the Miami Valley. Students receive up-to-date training and become eligible for state certification.

This position directs the activities of the Sinclair Fire Academy, including hiring and supervising instructors; managing courses; scheduling and administering state certification testing; overseeing facilities and equipment; marketing throughout the Miami Valley; maintaining the Ohio state charter; and maintaining Pro Board accreditation. Effective performance in this position results in students achieving their academic goals and earning professional certification.

The salary for this position begins at $58,491.00 and is determined commensurate with education and experience.

Principal Accountabilities

Coordinating

* Develop and coordinate training schedules and activities to meet area needs

* Select and supervise instructors

* Staff courses and maintain state ratio requirements

* Manage new student enrollment and ensure all prerequisites are met

* Schedule and administer state and Pro Board examinations

* Maintain the Fire Academy budget

* Maintain training facilities and equipment

* Maintain the state fire charter and Pro Board accreditation

* Maintain and run the Sinclair Fire Academy Advisory Committee

Recruiting and Advising

* Market the Sinclair Fire Academy to area fire departments, fire organizations, high schools, and other community organizations

* Perform marketing calls on various fire departments and organizations to determine specific training needs and provide briefings on future Sinclair Fire Academy trainings

* Provide prospective and current students with information on training requirements, certification procedures, Sinclair resources, and registration procedures

* Recruit new students through contacts with regional fire departments, corporations, and fire science organizations

* Provide advice and counsel to prospective students and organizations as to courses required for certification, when and where courses will be offered, and prerequisites

* Work with the chairperson, faculty, and staff on enrollment, recruitment, and retention issues

* Other duties as assigned by the chairperson of Law and Public Safety

Requirements

* Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree preferred

* Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience required

* Fire Instructor certification required;
Live Fire certification preferred

* Strong understanding of the educational and training needs of firefighters required

* Thorough knowledge of area-wide fire department organizations, their missions, training requirements, and funding sources required

* Strong people skills allowing the coordinator to work with the fire community and students in an effective and patient manner required

* Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills required
