The Director of Research and Assessment provides strategic leadership for district wide assessment,
research, and data systems in direct support of the Chief Academic Officer and the Core Academic Team. This
role is responsible for delivering timely, accurate, and actionable data to inform instructional improvement,
accountability, and executive decision-making, while anticipating stakeholder data needs and synthesizing
complex academic information into clear insights. The Director regularly presents findings to the Board of
Education, district and school leaders, and community stakeholders, and performs professional, administrative,
and supervisory duties to ensure the integrity, alignment, and effective use of data in support of the district's
Academic Action Plan and equity-driven student outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Incumbent performs a majority of the following duties)
* Serves as a member of the District Leadership Team with high levels of accountability and decision
- making responsibility, and as a key advisor and thought partner to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) on
assessment, accountability, and instructional improvement.
* Supports the CAO in advancing the Academic Action Plan and district strategic priorities by aligning
assessment systems, instructional practice, professional learning, and continuous improvement efforts.
* Provides professional advice in the development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of district
assessment programs, including benchmark, progress monitoring, and standardized testing systems.
* Translates complex assessment and performance data into clear, actionable insights and board-ready
reports to support executive-level decision-making, including for the Superintendent and Board of
Education.
* Oversees all state, federal, and local testing programs, ensuring compliance with accountability
requirements and using results to inform instructional improvement and equity-driven outcomes.
Supervises the development and administration of district benchmark assessments and data platforms,
including ordering materials, validating data, monitoring data integrity, and managing data across its
lifecycle.
* Designs, conducts, or facilitates studies and analyses to address key district questions; presents
findings with appropriate context and limitations to prevent inaccurate conclusions.

* Develops and facilitates professional development on assessment literacy, test administration, and data
use; serves as a coach and mentor to district and school leaders as needed.
* Leads or supports cross-departmental initiatives on behalf of the CAO, ensuring coherence across
curriculum, instruction, MTSS, accountability, and school improvement efforts.
* Develops and implements policies, procedures, budgets, and monitoring systems for assigned program
areas, evaluating effectiveness and recommending improvements to maximize impact.
* Serves as a district liaison to the Ohio Department of Education, CGCS, test publishers, scoring
centers, and other agencies; represents the district on committees, task forces, and community forums.
* Contributes to long-range academic planning and change management, including stakeholder
engagement, communication strategies, and system improvements, grounded in the district's core
values of Culture, Customer Service, Collaboration, Communication, and Commitment
* Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Administrative license issued by the Ohio Department of Education
* A minimum of a Master's degree in education, education leadership, econometrics, statistics,
mathematics, program evaluation or a related discipline with at least 15 semester hours of significant
statistical coursework (I.e., differential and integral calculus, statistical methods, mathematical
modeling, and probability theory).
* Several years of experience conducting quantitative research and data analysis using various statistical
software (i.e., SAS, SPSS, and etc.) with a strong background in program evaluation. Experience in Education preferred.
* Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
* Ability to pass a criminal background check
Knowledge & Experience
* Ability to coordinate efforts between The Innovative Academies of Dayton Public Schools and the Ohio Department of Education
(ODE) and the Council of Great City Schools (CGCS)
* Strong foundation in mathematics/statistics, statistical software and computer literacy
* Thorough knowledge of national, state and district testing procedures, practices, policies and protocols.
