LICENSED AGRICULTURE TEACHER

Position Summary

Dayton School District is seeking a dynamic, student‑centered Licensed Agriculture Teacher for the Junior High / High School level. Under the supervision of the Building Principal, the Agriculture Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, assessing, and evaluating instruction aligned with district goals and Oregon Academic Standards.

This position blends rigorous Career and Technical Education (CTE) instruction with hands‑on agricultural science, horticulture, and greenhouse management. A central responsibility of this role is the operation and expansion of the district's established student‑run greenhouse enterprise, integrating technical agricultural skills with entrepreneurship, leadership development, and real‑world business experience.

A core expectation of all licensed educators in Dayton School District is the explicit teaching and continuous improvement of literacy skills—reading, writing, speaking, listening, and academic language—within and across content areas to support student engagement, achievement, graduation readiness, and post‑secondary success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum
  • Develop and deliver standards‑aligned curriculum in agricultural science, horticulture, plant science, and natural resources.
  • Integrate literacy strategies across agricultural content areas to support student academic growth.
  • Utilize data‑driven instructional practices and formative assessment to improve student outcomes.
  • Create safe, structured, and engaging laboratory and greenhouse learning environments.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of adolescent learners.
  • Support student exploration of agricultural careers and post‑secondary pathways.
Greenhouse Management and Student Enterprise
  • Lead and manage the district's student‑operated greenhouse enterprise.
  • Supervise students in the production, care, marketing, and sale of greenhouse products.
  • Teach principles of entrepreneurship, budgeting, inventory management, and customer service.
  • Manage greenhouse operations including irrigation, fertilization, pest management, plant propagation, and seasonal planning.
  • Maintain financial accountability for greenhouse and student enterprise funds.
  • Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, and facilities in lab and shop settings.
Collaboration and Program Development
  • Collaborate with district staff to strengthen CTE pathways and alignment with graduation requirements.
  • Partner with community organizations, local businesses, and agricultural stakeholders.
  • Support FFA or related student leadership organizations, if applicable.
  • Participate in professional learning communities and district‑wide professional development.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of agricultural and CTE programming.
Qualifications
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License issued by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC), with appropriate endorsement(s) for assignment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of secondary curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
  • Strong background in plant science, soil science, greenhouse systems, and natural resource management.
  • Understanding of irrigation systems, fertilization practices, and integrated pest management.
  • Experience or knowledge in managing budgets and student enterprise funds.
  • Strong classroom management and student supervision skills.
  • Ability to safely supervise students in laboratory, greenhouse, and shop environments.
  • Commitment to equity and access in CTE programs.
  • Ability to meet the academic, social, emotional, and literacy needs of adolescent learners.
