Assist preschool‑age children with disabilities (ages 3‑5 years). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, diapering/potty training, assisting children to and from bus, working with individual or small groups of students per teacher direction, assisting in preparation of preschool activities (cutting/gluing). Lifting may be required (mobility support, transitioning from wheelchair or walker to floor/seat). Accommodations and instructional activities will be defined and directed by the classroom teacher.
Additional training will be provided by the district based on student’s needs. Training in CPR and/or other delegated nursing tasks (e.g. medication and health management) will be expected and provided. Candidate will be required to obtain an up to date physical. Preschool paraprofessionals are required by the Ohio Department of Education to be ESEA Qualified. Provides academic assistance to students in regular and special education classroom environments.
Demonstration of both verbal and written communication skills with classroom and intervention teachers is essential. This position requires the ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, and colleagues. Special education paraprofessionals may be assigned to any student(s) with identified disabilities including physical and cognitive in the areas of pre‑academic, academic and personal care needs. Assistance may be provided individually, in small and/or large group settings including but not limited to a resource room and/or classroom environment.
Lifting may be required. Accommodations and instructional activities will be defined and directed by the classroom teacher and/or intervention specialist.
