The Intensive English Program is seeking adjunct ESL instructors for the current term. The Program provides international students with language instruction and support, cultural orientation, and academic preparation. The instructors in this position deliver between 3 to 15 in-class contact hours of instruction per week, during a 7 week term,
along with required attendance at the faculty/staff meeting held prior to the beginning of the term. Potential for continued employment, if interested, may be possible contingent upon performance, enrollment numbers, and need.
- Master’s in TESOL, Applied Linguistics with a minimum of coursework in some of the following areas or a Master's in a closely related field (e.g., Communications, English, etc.) with a minimum of course work in ALL the following areas:
- language teaching methodology
- the nature of language/languages (e.g., introduction to linguistics)
- the structure of English (e.g., syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse)
- second language acquisition
- One year ESL/EFL teaching experience
- Demonstrated effective use of technology in the classroom
- MA in Teaching English as a Second Language or Applied Linguistics
- Minimum one to three years of experience teaching in an intensive English program
- Demonstrated ability to teach from novice to advanced level students in all skills areas
- Working knowledge of a second language and/or experience teaching abroad
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Demonstrated effective organization skills
- Demonstrated professional development in the field of TESOL
- Demonstrated service to department and/or language program
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic Marianist work environment
