Position: Lecturer, Teacher Edu/Prog Dir, Middle Childhood & Adolescent/Young Adult/Multi-Age

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Teach licensure coursework in the Middle Childhood Education (MCE) and Adolescent and Young Adult / Multi-Age (AYA/MA) programs and serve as Program Director for these programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position provides essential instructional capacity and full-time program leadership to ensure accreditation compliance, assessment integrity, curriculum alignment, and continuous improvement across MCE and AYA/MA programs. The role directly supports recruitment, retention, student success, and responsiveness to regional workforce needs in high-demand teaching field.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent and Young Adult Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or a closely related field.
  • Extensive coursework or professional experience preparing educators for grades 4-9 and/or 7-12 licensure.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in middle or secondary 4-12 educational settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and support teacher candidates in licensure-based programs.
  • Experience working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from historically marginalized populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent and Young Adult Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in social studies and/or science education at the 4-9 and/or 7-12 grade levels
  • Experience teaching methods courses and/or professional seminars in educator preparation programs.
  • Familiarity with CAEP accreditation standards, the Ohio Department of Higher Education licensure requirements, Ohio Learning Standards and Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession.
  • Experience administering or evaluating licensure-linked assessments such as edTPA, unit plans, or clinical evaluations.
  • Experience collaborating with school districts to support clinical placements, recruitment, and workforce-aligned preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to support program coordination, assessment systems, advising, or accreditation activities.
Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd):

Program Directing – 20%
  • Serve as Program Director for the Middle Childhood Education (MCE) and Adolescent and Young Adult / Multi-Age (AYA/MA) licensure programs.
  • Mentor, advise, and supervise teacher candidates, including support for students navigating program transition points, remediation plans, and clinical experiences.
  • Provide leadership for curriculum coordination, course sequencing, and alignment across undergraduate and graduate offerings.
  • Oversee administration, scoring, analysis, and continuous improvement of key assessments required for licensure and accreditation.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of program transition points, including entry, progression, and exit requirements.
  • Lead accreditation-related activities in both programs, including data collection, documentation, annual reporting, and preparation for CAEP self‑study and reviews.
  • Coordinate program responses to evolving ODHE requirements, Ohio licensure policy changes, and potential grade‑band restructuring.
  • Work closely with department leadership and other program directors to ensure coherence across educator preparation programs.
  • Support recruitment and retention initiatives by coordinating outreach to school districts, prospective students, and adult learners.
  • Guide program redesign and scheduling to improve access, flexibility, and enrollment growth.
Service – 20%
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as assigned.
  • Participate in recruitment, retention, advising, and alumni engagement activities that support program growth and sustainability.
  • Represent MCE and AYA/MA programs at regional and statewide events, including district partnerships and educator preparation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across campus and with external partners to strengthen educator preparation pathways.
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations related to middle childhood, secondary education, or teacher preparation.
