Job Summary /Basic Function

The Director of Library Engagement and Operations provides leadership and oversight for key operational, engagement, assessment, and development functions of the University Library. Reporting to the University Librarian, this position supports the strategic direction of the Library, represents the University Librarian as designated, and oversees initiatives that enhance student success, community engagement, donor relations, marketing, assessment, and grant development. The Director plays a central role in advancing the Library's mission and institutional impact.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, with 5 years of related professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education, libraries, or a related professional environment
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Experience coordinating projects across departments or functional areas.
Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Library and Information Science

Essential Functions And Percent Of Time 30% Leadership & Operations
  • Provide administrative, operational, and strategic support to the University Librarian in support of library initiatives and priorities.
  • Serve as the University Librarian's representative at meetings and manage day‑to‑day library operations in the University Librarian's absence.
  • Serve as a member of the library administrative council.
  • Collaborate with the University Librarian on planning, implementing, and evaluating unit priorities, including analysis and improvement of library services.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of operational procedures.
20% Assessment & Student Success
  • Lead and participate in assessment activities in collaboration with library staff and university departments.
  • Evaluate, document, and communicate the Library's contribution to student success and institutional outcomes.
  • Serve on the Library Student Advisory Committee.
20% Development & Donor Programs
  • Manage and oversee the Friends of the Library organization.
  • Coordinate Friends of the Library events, such as the annual luncheon, student academic awards (Top Scholars), and student employee awards.
  • Coordinate the Legacy Book Program and related donor engagement activities.
  • Administer and coordinate library book support funds.
20% Engagement, Outreach & Marketing
  • Chair the Library Marketing Team and lead the development and implementation of marketing strategies.
  • Serve as liaison between the Library and the University Communications and Marketing Department to ensure consistent and aligned messaging.
  • Take the lead in identifying, cultivating, and developing outreach and engagement activities, making direct connections with students, faculty, staff, and the community at large to promote and support collaborations and activities that enhance success at all levels.
  • Identify potential alliances and create, implement, and assess programming, activities, and projects designed to facilitate engagement beyond our campus borders and promote new knowledge creation.
  • Work collaboratively to develop, implement, and assess programming, activities, instruction, and projects designed to improve and enhance student success through engagement with librarians and library resources.
10% Grants & Research Support
  • Identify and research funding opportunities relevant to library initiatives.
  • Prepare, write, and coordinate grant proposals.
  • Assist library departments with grant development and application submission.
Working Conditions

Standard Monday‑Friday workweek with occasional evening and weekend events. To preserve the safety and security of the campus community and to maintain the integrity of university operations, the employment offer is contingent on background checks including criminal, credit, and education verifications.
