Who We Are
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking Specials Teachers in the areas of Physical Education, Music, and Art for the 2026-27 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio.
As a Teacher You Are Required To- Current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education

- Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student.
- Use multiple approaches to instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Engage in active, hands‑on creative and innovative approaches to help students improve their skills.
- Identify and build on student strengths.
- Embrace, support, and follow all district‑enacted programming in the areas of academic, behavioral, and emotional support.
- Facilitate ongoing assessments to determine the starting point for instruction, monitor instructional needs, and evaluate student progress.
- Evaluate, grade, and assess student work.
- Maintain class records and report grades/progress at the end of the term.
- Provide instruction to students with varying capabilities and needs with attention to SEL support.
- Engage in active and innovative approaches to student learning.
- Assist students in the development of responsible behaviors and a positive work ethic.
- Implement an effective program of instruction reflective of the Ohio Department of Education.
- Interact with paraprofessionals, nurses, mental‑health specialists, and/or counselors to provide a safe and student‑centered environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support building and district‑level programs.
- Communicate with parents and caregivers to address student and classroom issues.
- Maintain a professional demeanor, exemplifying responsible leadership as a model for students.
- Manage all situations in a positive and professional manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
As a contracted employee, teachers work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day.
Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement and increases with experience and education.
Contracted employees receive competitive benefits.
All employees receive professional development.
Salary details are available in the Springfield Education Association (SEA) negotiated agreement for the 2025‑26 school year, reflecting the current pay and benefits in place.
