    Job Summary:

    The JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps) Army Instructor (AI) will assist the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) as the institutional leader in managing and conducting the JROTC program in accordance with United States Army Cadet Command (USACC) regulatory guidelines and school district rules, regulations, and policies. Assists the SAI to accomplish the instructional, operations, and administrative mission of the JROTC program.

    Responsible for providing classroom instruction to cadets as established within the curriculum’s program of instruction (POI) as provided by USACC and school district guidelines and policies. Adheres to APS JROTC established operating procedures relating to administration, control, and training of cadets. Assists in establishing and maintaining viable extracurricular activities such as Color Guards, Drill Teams, Raider Teams, Rifle Teams, Orienteering Teams and Academic Teams.

    Qualifications:
    • Certified (or certifiable) as an Army JROTC Instructor through U.S. Army Cadet Command;
    • Retired, Nation Guard, or reservist US Army Non-Commissioned Officer in the rank of Staff Sergeant through Command Sergeant Major;
    • Valid Ohio teaching license/certificate or ability to obtain appropriate licensure as required;
    • Must obtain an Associate's Degree within five 950 years of employment 9if no degree held within the timeframe stated in IAW U.S Army Cadet Command Regulation 145-2;
    • Effective interpersonal skills with children and adults;
    • A broad range of interests and experience, with a passion for learning and youth development;
    • Solid, basic knowledge in core content areas and leadership development;
    • Prior relevant teaching, coaching, or youth leadership experience preferred;
    • Sound classroom and corps management skills;
    • Ability to improvise and problem solve;
    • Experience with technology integration in the teaching and learning process;
    • Effective in an interdisciplinary, teamed environment;
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, provide leadership, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
    • Entrepreneurial spirit;

    Duties/

    Essential Functions:
    • Assists the Senior JROTC Army Instructor, Principal, Director of Army Instruction, and other agencies in ensuring that the JROTC Program is administered in accordance with law, regulation, and policies; assists with executing the JROTC Department functions of instruction, training, and administration.
    • Maintains good relations with school authorities, faculty, and the student body; maintains current regulations, policies, and procedures and maintains contact with parents of all cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems.
    • Ensures all JROTC classes are conducted utilizing the lesson plans contained in the current and updated version of the JROTC Curriculum Manager and are taught as required by the approved Master Training Schedule.
    • Utilizes all available instructional equipment to include but not limited to the computers, LCD projectors, Classroom Performance Systems (CPS), SMART Boards, Promethium Boards, etc.
    • Conducts a public affairs effort in the local area middle and elementary schools, among school and community officials, civic groups, parent teacher groups and other individuals or groups, designed to further the understanding of JROTC, the school and the Army.
