Dayton Public Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Montessori Teacher to join our educational team. The Montessori Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a prepared learning environment that fosters independence, curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. This educator will design and implement Montessori-aligned lessons and learning experiences while ensuring instruction meets Ohio Learning Standards and district expectations.
The Montessori Teacher will guide scholars through individualized, small-group, and whole-group learning opportunities; observe and assess student progress; and support the academic, social, emotional, and developmental growth of each child. The successful candidate will cultivate a respectful, inclusive, and engaging classroom community that reflects Montessori principles and supports the diverse needs of all learners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Create and maintain a prepared Montessori environment that promotes independence, responsibility, and meaningful engagement.
- Plan and implement Montessori-aligned lessons and learning experiences that meet the developmental needs of scholars.
- Present Montessori materials and lessons through individualized, small-group, and whole-group instruction.
- Observe, assess, and document student progress to inform instructional decisions and support continuous growth.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of scholars.
- Support scholars in developing executive functioning skills, conflict-resolution strategies, and personal responsibility.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment data, progress monitoring, and required district documentation.
- Utilize student data to drive instructional planning and intervention.
- Collaborate with colleagues, intervention specialists, related service providers, instructional coaches, and administrators to support student success.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding student progress, classroom activities, and school initiatives.
- Participate in professional learning, staff meetings, district trainings, and school events.
- Uphold district policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Contribute positively to the school community and support the mission, vision, and goals of Dayton Public Schools.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid Ohio teaching license appropriate to the assigned grade level and content area, or ability to obtain appropriate licensure.
- Knowledge of child development and effective instructional practices.
- Ability to build positive relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues.
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered learning.
- Montessori credential (AMS, AMI, MACTE-accredited, or equivalent) appropriate to the assigned age level, or willingness to obtain Montessori training.
- Experience teaching in a Montessori, public Montessori, or elementary educational setting.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Knowledge of Montessori philosophy, materials, and instructional practices.
- Experience supporting multi-age learning communities.
- Understanding of Montessori philosophy and developmental learning practices.
- Ability to create engaging, individualized learning experiences.
- Skill in observation-based assessment and instructional planning.
- Ability to foster independence, intrinsic motivation, and a growth mindset in scholars.
- Proficiency in using instructional technology, student information systems, and digital communication tools.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within professional learning communities and interdisciplinary teams.
