Position: Associate Vice Provost for Academic Program Development

Associate Vice Provost for Academic Program Development

Wright State University seeks an innovative and experienced higher education professional to serve as Associate Vice Provost for Academic Program Development. This position plays a central role in shaping the future of the university's academic portfolio by researching, designing, and advancing new degree and certificate programs aligned with workforce needs and institutional strategic priorities. The Associate Vice Provost will collaborate across academic colleges, support institutional and programmatic accreditation processes, and lead the development of high quality, market responsive curricula.

The ideal candidate brings experience in higher education program development, accreditation processes, and strong analytical and project management skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in a healthcare field, higher education, educational leadership, public health, or related discipline with a minimum of five years of experience in academic program development, accreditation, curriculum design, or higher education administration. Demonstrated knowledge of academic governance processes and institutional curricular approval workflows. Familiarity with regional accreditation standards (preferably the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.

Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate in a healthcare or education related field. Experience with discipline specific healthcare accrediting bodies (e.g., Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARCPA), Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)). Experience conducting market research or environmental scanning.

Knowledge of statewide approval processes (Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE)). Experience with partnership development in healthcare sectors.

Essential Functions and percent of time:
Program Research & Market Analysis (20%) Conduct labor market, competitor, and student demand analyses to identify new academic program opportunities. Benchmark emerging trends in healthcare and postsecondary education to guide program direction. Engage healthcare employers and regional workforce partners to assess demand for new programs and credentials.

Program Development & Proposal Management (25%) Lead the development of concept papers, business plans, and academic program proposals for internal and external approval. Collaborate with faculty to design curricula, learning outcomes, program structures, and assessment plans. Develop documentation aligned with institutional academic approval processes. Prepare proposals modeled on best practices used by peer academic program developers responsible for writing and submitting new program proposals.

Accreditation & Compliance (20%) Research and document programmatic accreditation and licensure requirements for new academic programs. Prepare materials required for Higher Learning Commission (HLC) substantive change requests and ongoing compliance. Coordinate with state regulatory bodies and internal governance committees.

Curricular & Operational Planning (10%) Work with academic leadership to determine faculty staffing needs, instructional models, and administrative support requirements. Evaluate facility, technology, laboratory, simulation, and equipment needs. Support the development of budgets and cost projections.

Partnership Development & External Relations (10%) Build partnerships with healthcare organizations, clinical sites, industry partners, and community agencies. Facilitate clinical affiliation agreements and advisory board participation. Support grant proposal development for externally funded program initiatives.

Project Leadership & Collaboration (10%) Serve as project lead for new program initiatives from initial planning through launch. Coordinate work across faculty committees, deans, Institutional Research, Enrollment Management, and Accreditation offices. Track progress, timelines, deliverables, and reporting milestones.

Non-Essential Functions and percent of time:
Other duties as assigned (5%)

Working Conditions:

Collaboration with multiple colleges, faculty committees, and external partners. Occasional regional travel for employer outreach and partnership development. Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines in a fast-moving academic environment.
