ACADEMIC COACH/MENTOR
Reports to:
NOTE:
This position is funded through contracted funds. Employee supervision is assigned under contractual agreement to the Trotwood City Schools.
Job Objectives:
Performs a variety of classroom support to help students achieve productive learning experiences in High School.
FLSA Status:
Exempt
Minimum
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications:
• Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
• Provides documented evidence of a clear criminal record.
• Holds or is qualified to obtain an Educational Aide Permit.

Responsibilities The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable and essential accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.
• Checks with the teacher for instructions. Works with small groups and/or individual students. Seeks advice when expectations are unclear.
• Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
• Promotes a favorable image of the school district.
• Helps students with remedial and/or enrichment activities. Reinforces instructional materials introduced by the teacher. Maintains a positive learning environment.
• Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance. Avoids being intrusive. Solves student concerns discreetly.
• Supports an inclusive educational environment. Helps students with disabilities participate in appropriate peer group activities as directed.
• Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
• Takes precautions to ensure student safety. Does not leave students unsupervised.
• Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code.
• Promotes the proper use and care of school property. Reports student discipline problems, vandalism, and other related concerns.
• Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
- Mentors will meet weekly with their students to set behavior and academic goals
Mentors will meet with teachers during plan time to review student progress
Mentors will monitor classroom behavior and performance daily
- Mentors will be the first level of behavior intervention
- Mentors will conduct seminars for success twice per nine weeks
Seminar One:
Connecting behavior and attitude to academic performance
Seminar Two:
Connecting academic skills with post-secondary goals
Seminar Three:
Academic planning
- Mentors will communicate weekly with parents/guardians about student progress
- Mentors will assist in transition to classes, morning entry, dismissal, and lunch duty
