The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking Specials Teachers in the areas of Physical Education, Music, and Art for the 2026-27 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through 12th grade students, with a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings. Our mission is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students through a wealth of opportunities, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center.
Asa Teacher, you are required to:
- Hold a current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
- Be flexible in your work schedule and willing to attend professional development sessions.
- Be willing to serve on teams.
- Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to meet the needs of each student.
- Use multiple approaches to instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Engage in active, hands‑on, creative and innovative approaches to help students learn and improve their skills.
- Identify and build on student strengths.
- Embrace, support, and follow all district‑enacted programming in the areas of academic, behavioral, and emotional support.
- Facilitate ongoing assessments to determine starting points for instruction, monitor instructional needs, and evaluate student progress.
- Evaluate, grade, and assess student work.
- Maintain class records and report grades and progress at the end of the term.
- Provide instruction to students with varying capabilities and needs, including SEL support.
- Assist students in the development of responsible behaviors and a positive work ethic.
- Implement an effective program of instruction reflective of the Ohio Department of Education.
- Interact with paraprofessionals, nurses, mental health specialists, and counselors to provide a safe, student‑centered environment.
- Collaborate in planning with colleagues, supporting building and district‑level programs.
- Communicate with parents and caregivers to address student/classroom issues.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and exemplify responsible leadership as a role model for students.
- Manage all situations in a positive and professional manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
As a contracted employee, you will work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day.
Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated Agreement, increasing with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits, and all employees receive professional development.
