This campus minister has a particular focus on ministerial outreach to and accompaniment of first year students in faith as part of the Faith Formation and Spiritual Accompaniment team in Campus Ministry (NOT a live-in role). Initiates opportunities for spiritual growth; engages in evangelization and outreach; creates opportunities for catechesis, faith formation, faith-based justice education, and religious literacy; coordinates weekly liturgy;
builds faith communities; and develops student leadership in ministry in a residential area. Ministry development may include Christ-centered outreach initiatives, faith sharing/scripture study groups, faith-based educational opportunities, prayer/reflection and other creative faith/relationship building programs. Includes connection to and support of housing staff to foster the Catholic and Marianist charism, and to support pastoral care of individual students and communities within residential areas.
This campus minister plans and implements the Callings program for incoming first year students, from student leader selection and formation to implementation of Callings and connecting Callings participants to active engagement within the breadth of Campus Ministry.
Reaches out to a diverse student body with cultural awareness and responsiveness. May supervise and collaborate with a graduate assistant in ministry. Participates as an active member of the campus ministry team and embodies a commitment to Catholic and Marianist ideals while cultivating the faith life of the campus community through transformative encounters with God.
This is a full-time, 11 month position with full benefits; it involves some late nights and weekends.
In light of the job duties associated with this position, the University considers the individual holding this position to be acting as a minister of the Catholic faith.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Evidence of theological training/formation suitable for ministry (without Masters)
- Desire to embody Catholic and Marianist traditions as a practicing Catholic, exhibiting public conduct and ministerial practices reflective of the teachings of the Catholic Church (clarified in hiring process)
- Willingness to work late evenings and some weekends
- Master’s Degree (Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies, Divinity, or related field)
- One-year full-time ministry experience or equivalent
- Experience in Campus Ministry/youth/young adult ministry
- Direct higher education experience, particularly in ministry
- Outreach and Evangelization among students in a diverse Christian community
- Developing and implementing creative faith development programs for youth/young adults
- Experience with pastoral care and crisis response
- Ability to recruit, train, and supervise undergraduate student leaders in a ministry setting
- Ability to generate enthusiasm for campus ministry and mentor college students
- Ability to provide faith formation grounded in Catholic theology and spirituality
- Experience with building/working with small faith communities or retreats
- Practicing cultural competency in ministry with attention to inclusive excellence
- Effective communication skills
