Job Summary / Basic Function

Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Engagement, the Program Coordinator creates a supportive, welcoming environment that promotes the success of Wright State students, with a focused commitment to first‑year students and first‑generation students as they navigate critical transitions to college. This role develops and delivers innovative, student‑centered programs while driving measurable outcomes in course completion, persistence, and retention.

Through evidence‑based practices, strategic outreach, collaborative programming, and a dedicated student‑centric model, the Academic Engagement Program Coordinator empowers students to fully engage academically by teaching them lifelong success strategies needed to navigate the university successfully.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 1–3 years of experience in community outreach, public relations, education, management, customer service, marketing, enrollment or progressive responsibility in a related field, with at least one of the three years working with college or high‑school students, pertinent experience earned prior to bachelor’s degree completion can be included. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong project management skills. Strong presentation and public speaking skills for diverse audiences, both on and off campus.

Strong computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field with 3–5 years of related experience. Ability to provide 100% in‑person support to align with institutional commitments to student‑centered service and ensure consistent, accessible support. Self‑motivated, curious, and capable of working independently as well as within a team. Strong administrative and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.

A student‑first mentality with a commitment to fostering student success, belonging, and well‑being. Solutions‑oriented with strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges. Adaptable in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

Essential Functions – 50% Student and Community Engagement
  • Meet individually with first‑year students to provide support during key transition points and teach lifelong success strategies needed to navigate the university successfully.
  • Provide proactive outreach and individualized support to assigned students, including those identified through early alerts or referrals.
  • Assist students seeking textbook assistance funds by encouraging resourcefulness, connecting them with appropriate campus resources, and guiding them through the hardship fund application process.
  • Maintain accurate case documentation in compliance with FERPA and institutional guidelines.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations to promote summer college readiness initiatives and support prospective and current students.
  • Foster a welcoming, student‑centered environment within the Raiders First Student Center.
  • Cultivate relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners to expand mentoring and networking opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge of university policies, procedures, and student support resources to ensure accurate guidance.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student employees supporting outreach, programming, and daily operations.
  • Manage departmental social media and website content to promote programs, services, and student engagement.
