Job Summary/Basic Function: Collaboratively and under the joint direction of the University Libraries Head of Instruction & Research Services and the Boonshoft School of Medicine Associate Dean for Medical Education, the Research and Instruction Librarian for Medicine is responsible for assisting Wright State University students, faculty, and staff to find, evaluate, and organize the information sources they need to meet their learning, teaching, research, and professional objectives.

The Research and Instruction Librarian for Medicine provides general reference, instruction, and liaison services to the Boonshoft School of Medicine, affiliate faculty, and other academic areas as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: A.L.A. accredited M.L.S./M.L.I.S. Minimum three years of medical library experience or academic library experience supporting reference and instructional needs in the health sciences. Experience working with medical and/or graduate student populations. Experience with library research databases and literature searches. Demonstrated commitment to teamwork. Knowledge of library instructional assessment techniques. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to manage time and set priorities.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a health-related field. Teaching experience. Demonstrated knowledge of the design and delivery of information literacy instruction. Experience using a learning management system for instruction, such as D2L Brightspace.. Experience creating library guides using a content management platform such as Spring Share. Interest in personal scholarly achievement and professional development

50% Essential function:
Liaison to Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) Teaches medical students and faculty how to effectively search medical databases and evaluate sources. Provides workshops on citation management, research methodology, and evidence-based practice. Guides healthcare professionals in using reference management tools. Provides access to medical literature for patient care decisions. Partners with medical faculty on research projects, grant writing, and academic publishing.

Teaches Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM), which involves guiding learners through the principles and application of integrating clinical expertise, patient values, and the best available research evidence. Meets with students who are starting their own research or are on research teams with faculty and/or residents to assist with lit search process. Counsels students and faculty individually regarding specific research assignments or projects, with a strong focus on the Scholarship in Medicine research projects;

including project grading. Teaches in the WrightQ Curriculum, Upstream Medicine, Scholarship in Medicine, Advanced Research Methods, and Third Year Bootcamp, and contributes to PTOX Scientific Writing course; including grading assignments. Participates in BSOM curriculum design, especially the EBM WQ curriculum and critical appraisal of the literature. Conducts assessment in classes taught to gauge student learning usually through required assignments. Runs searches for faculty to find resources to create protocols/guidelines/clinical care for their workplaces.

Guides faculty and students on how to conduct systematic reviews, understand research protocols, track review efforts; co-authoring systematic reviews when appropriate. Keeps current on professional developments in medical education literature. Monitors academic department meetings, activities, and communications for opportunities to provide library services. Participates in Boonshoft School of Medicine committees as assigned. Facilitates student and faculty use of digital medical curriculum tools (Clinical Key, Access Medicine, etc.).

Participates in accreditation related documentation and verification as needed.

45% Essential function:
Dunbar Library Research and Instruction Designs and teaches classes, workshops, subject and course guides, how-to worksheets, and online tutorials to educate and empower students on effective library research strategies, citation management, content evaluation, and other information literacy skills enabling students to make informed decisions, recognize biases, and understand context so that they can effectively use and communicate information. Collaborates with faculty to design library research assignments enhancing student learning.

Assists faculty in assessing student learning outcomes by designing assessment measures. Engages in planning, projects, and service delivery within the Instruction and Research Services Department. Delivers library…
