The Subject Matter Expert (SME) Network Security Engineer provides senior‑level expertise in designing, advising, and integrating secure enterprise and hybrid network environments in support of the Treasury/IRS ENISE program. This role ensures that network architectures, controls, and security strategies meet federal cybersecurity requirements and mission objectives. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities- Provide senior‑level engineering and architecture support for secure network environments within enterprise and hybrid infrastructures.
- Develop, enhance, and validate secure network architecture designs aligned with federal security standards and program requirements.
- Recommend and implement network security controls, including boundary protection, segmentation, monitoring, and cybersecurity hardening techniques.
- Participate in technical design reviews, engineering working groups, and security architecture discussions.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system design artifacts, diagrams, standards, and integration plans.
- Assist stakeholders in planning and executing secure integration of new technologies or capabilities.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment between network architecture and overall cybersecurity strategies.
- Identify risks, vulnerabilities, and areas for security improvement across network environments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with an active Public Trust (MBI) clearance.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Networking, Information Technology, or related field.
- 10+ years of professional experience in network engineering, network architecture, or network security.
- Active CISSP certification.
- Extensive experience with enterprise network security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, secure routing/switching, and cloud‑based network security solutions.
- Strong understanding of network security best practices, federal cybersecurity standards, and secure system design principles.
- Experience supporting Treasury or IRS programs.
- Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture principles and implementation strategies.
- Experience in hybrid (on‑prem/cloud) environments such as AWS, Azure, or similar platforms.
