Materials Engineer
Material Manager (Project Management)
Role Summary The Material Manager ensures all R-EGI program materials, hardware, components, and government-furnished equipment (GFE) are properly planned, tracked, staged, and available to support engineering, integration, test, and build activities. This role owns material visibility and readiness and serves as the central coordination point for material status across Engineering, Execution Leads, Integration and Test Execution Leads, and Business Ops.Primary Responsibilities
1. Material Planning & Requirements Alignment
Maintain the program's material requirements list derived from engineering BOMs, build plans, platform needs, and integration/test schedules.
Align material readiness with Tier-0, Tier-1, and Tier-2 schedules, including PRU/FEU builds, engineering releases, platform studies, and integration/test activities.
Identify long-lead or limited-quantity items early so Subcontracts/Supply Chain can take appropriate action.
Provide material need dates and readiness status to the Scheduling Team and Execution Leads.
2. Material Tracking, Status updates & Accountability
Maintain the authoritative R-EGI material tracker, reflecting inventory, location, configuration, and assignment to builds or IPT work.
Track incoming/outgoing material, serialized items, GFE/CFE, engineering units, and test assets.
Manage chain-of-custody documentation and support audit readiness.
Provide routine material readiness updates to Business Ops, Execution Leads, and program leadership.
3. Material Readiness for Builds, Integration & Test
Stage and kit materials for PRU/FEU builds, engineering development, lab work, integration events, and test activities.
Coordinate closely with Integration and Test Execution Leads to ensure test windows are supported by required hardware and components.
Identify shortages, defects, missing documentation, or configuration inconsistencies early.
Support material planning for qualification events, system-level tests, and platform integration timelines.
4. Configuration & Documentation Coordination
Track configuration data for all units: hardware revisions, software loads, mod levels, and serialized items.
Ensure alignment with CM/DM repositories and verify that material status correctly reflects the latest engineering documentation.
Maintain traceability between engineering updates, BOM changes, and material inventory.
5. Cross-Functional Coordination
Synchronizing material requirements with engineering and integration/test needs.
Ensuring material readiness supports schedule-driven program activities.
Providing authoritative material data during PM and ML-level discussions.
6. Risk, Issue, and Cost Awareness (Non-Procurement)
Identify material-related schedule risks, quantity shortages, or obsolescence concerns.
Maintain material-related entries in the risk and issue log.
Provide Business Ops with material need dates and readiness status to support accurate EAC/spend forecasts.
Support reviews, audits, and government data calls requiring detailed material status.
Required Qualifications
5-7 years of experience in material management, logistics coordination, inventory control, or production/material support.
Experience supporting DoD hardware-centric programs (preferably avionics, PNT, or similar).
Ability to interpret engineering data such as BOMs, drawings, parts lists, and configuration documents.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate, traceable inventory and documentation.
Proficiency with Excel/Sheets and digital collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, Confluence).
Ability to coordinate across engineering, test, planning, and business operations teams in a fast-moving environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting engineering builds, integration labs, or qualification testing.
Familiarity with AFLCMC program execution processes and material-accountability expectations.
Experience tracking serialized or controlled GFE/GFP.
Understanding program lifecycle phases (prototype, qualification, integration/test, production, sustainment) and their differing material demands.
