The position of Manufacturing Engineer at Thaler Defense Systems is responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing systems that meet the stringent quality and compliance standards required in the Aerospace and Defense sectors. The Manufacturing Engineer position plays a key role in driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, efficiency, and product quality across our operations. The ideal candidate will possess a robust engineering background with expertise in manufacturing processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes and systems to improve production efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure high-quality outputs in compliance with Aerospace and Defense quality standards in a precision machining environment.
- Identify and resolve production issues, including mechanical failures, process inefficiencies, and quality concerns. Conduct thorough root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Lead and manage manufacturing projects, including the integration of new products, installation of new equipment, process upgrades, and upgrades to existing systems. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with industry specifications.
- Develop new product routings and estimated machine and labor cycle times to support bid and proposal efforts.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including process workflows, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical reports. Analyze production data and generate regular performance reports for management.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines. Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the manufacturing team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering; experience in a machining-intensive environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of precision machining processes (e.g., CNC milling, turning), materials, GD&T, and blueprint reading.
- Estimating or bid and proposal experience a plus.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical skills.
- Able to execute multiple tasks, deadlines and priorities.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies is highly desirable.
- Proficient with CAD or CAD/CAM software and other engineering tools used in the design and analysis of manufacturing processes.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with ERP systems; experience with Infor Syteline a plus.
- Experience with Aerospace and Defense regulatory requirements, including AS9100, ISO 9001, and ITAR/EAR.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Travel as necessary based on need, less than 10%.
