Job Description & How to Apply Below

Resonant Sciences LLC has an immediate opening for a Research Scientist/Engineer with 5-10 years of experience in infrared science/technology to join our team in Dayton, OH. The position provides an opportunity to join a fast-paced elite team whose primary mission is to support our Nation's War Fighters. This person will serve a dual role: contributing directly to active technical projects and helping grow the business by identifying and pursuing new opportunities that combine innovative IR software with state-of-the-art hardware and computing platforms.

Core

Responsibilities
  • The Research Scientist/Engineer will perform technical work on projects involving infrared radiative transfer modeling, IR sensor and camera system design or integration, atmospheric propagation analysis, and scientific data processing.
  • Beyond project execution, this person will be expected to contribute to proposal writing and new business capture, helping to shape technical approaches that position the company competitively for government contracts and research efforts.
Required Qualifications
  • Ideally holds an MS or PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline with a clear emphasis on infrared or optical science.
  • Have applied experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Infrared radiative transfer physics and atmospheric modeling (e.g., MODTRAN, LBLRTM, or similar codes).
    • IR sensor or camera system design, characterization, and integration, electro-optical system performance modeling.
    • Scientific software development in Python (Num Py, Sci Py, matplotlib, and related tools).
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to move fluidly between theory, simulation, and real-world measurement data are essential.
Strongly Preferred
  • Experience and willingness to write code, analyze data, and solve hard problems.
  • Thinking strategically about the future application and direction of the technical solution being developed.
  • Track record of contributing to government proposals (SBIR/STTR, BAAs, RFPs).
  • A candidate who can look at an emerging need in the IR community, then translate it into a compelling technical approach and a winnable proposal will have an outsized impact here.
  • Familiarity with modern computing approaches: GPU acceleration, real-time processing pipelines, HPC, or cloud-based scientific workflows which is a strong differentiator, particularly as the company pursues work that pushes the boundary between high-fidelity IR modeling and real-time system performance.
Citizenship/Security Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance required. Active clearance preferred.
