Job Overview
Senior Mechanical Engineer – Rotating Equipment. Own design, development, and validation of rotating machinery for aerospace power generation systems. Lead new mechanical designs, improve design practices, and provide mentorship, while collaborating across disciplines to deliver electric power solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of aircraft power generators and rotating equipment using sound engineering principles.
- Apply strong mechanical engineering design and analysis leadership on complex rotating machinery.
- Use structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS) and CAD tools (e.g., NX) in development and validation of designs.
- Lead mechanical design of rotating equipment (rotors, stators, shafts, bearings, seals, housings) for aircraft electric power systems.
- Own development of 3‑D models, 2‑D drawings, and engineering specifications in accordance with aerospace and GE Aerospace standards.
- Perform and/or review structural, fatigue, dynamic, and tolerance analyses to ensure robust performance, life, and design integrity.
- Ensure proper mechanical integration of rotating equipment within the electric power system and overall aircraft installation.
- Support and interpret component‑ and system‑level testing, including test planning, data review, anomaly resolution, and test reporting.
- Lead root‑cause investigation and corrective action implementation for development and production issues (e.g., vibration, wear, premature failures).
- Collaborate with systems, electrical, thermal, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to deliver integrated, producible solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, standard work, and best practices, and mentor early‑career engineers in rotating equipment design.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum 8 years of design, analysis, and/or product development experience.
- In‑person work at the Dayton, OH facility required.
- U.S. citizenship (or other specified legal status) required for access to export‑controlled information.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) or equivalent depth of technical experience in rotating equipment.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (NX, Creo) and mechanical drawings, including application of GD&T.
- Experience performing structural and fatigue analysis of rotating components in demanding environments.
- 10+ years in a safety‑critical, regulated industry (aerospace or similar).
- Strong communication and cross‑functional technical leadership skills.
- Experience with aircraft electric power systems or other aerospace mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of rotor dynamics, vibration, bearings, seals, and balancing of rotating machinery.
- Hands‑on experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus).
- Familiarity with aerospace environmental and qualification standards (e.g., DO‑160 or equivalent).
- Demonstrated mentoring and technical leadership with a focus on continuous improvement.
This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information. Employment will be contingent upon proving you meet the status of a U.S. Person as a lawful permanent resident, U.S. citizen, asylee, or refugee.
Benefits- Medical, dental, and vision insurance starting the first day of employment.
- Permissive time off policy for newly hired employees.
- Generous 401(k) plan.
- Tuition reimbursement.
- Life insurance and disability coverage.
