Description
Norwood Medical is seeking a Process Engineer in New Product Development. This role is responsible for translating customer specifications into efficient and repeatable CNC machining processes, ensuring new products are robust, manufacturable, cost-effective, and are launched on schedule. The Process Engineer supports operations through new product ramp-up until stable and efficient production is achieved.
This is a hands-on role that requires up to 50% of the day to be spent on the manufacturing floor communicating with production staff and working as a team to effectively launch new products. Norwood offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge equipment and robotics. Candidates must be team oriented and able to lead projects independently.
Key Responsibilities:
CNC Process Development
- Develop and implement robust CNC machining processes for new products, translating customer and desgin specifications into repeatable manufacturing solutions.
- Define and document all manufacturing process steps, including machining strategy, tooling, fixturing, routings, and inspection requirements.
- Lead CNC process prove-outs, trials, and validations to ensure processes are capable, efficient, and cost-effective prior to production release.
- Identify manufacturability risks early and drive design or process changes to support successful launches.
- Own process development timelines, managing workload to ensure new product milestones and customer launch schedules are met.
- Represent Process Engineering on project teams, providing regular status updates to management and customers.
- Partner closely with Customer Design Engineering during the design phase, providing manufacturability and CNC process feedback.
- Collaborate with Planning to understand machine availability and capacity constraints.
- Spend up to 50% of time on the manufacturing floor supporting new product introductions, working directly with operators and production leadership.
- Support operations through ramp-up until products are stable, efficient, and meeting cost targets.
- Plan, conduct, and analyze engineering studies to drive process improvements during development and ramp-up.
- Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Assist with capital equipment projects, including equipment selection, justification, and timeline oversight.
- High School Diploma with 10+ years of similar engineering experience OR a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field) with 0-3+ years of similar engineering experience.
- Experience working in CNC machining environments.
- Experience creating, improving, and/or troubleshooting machining engineering processes.
- Experience overseeing project timelines.
- Microsoft Office.
- Experience working in automated work environments, including robotics is preferred.
- 2D/3D modeling experience is a plus.
- Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a plus.
- GD&T experience is a plus.
