This role contributes to the full project lifecycle, from planning and routing through design, construction support, and project closeout. The engineer prepares technical specifications, evaluates proposals, develops line routing layouts, and supports structure design while collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams.

The position also assists with right‑of‑way acquisition, works with LiDAR data, supports construction management, and participates in field engineering activities, including system restoration during outages and storm events.

Responsibilities
  • Apply engineering, planning, and organizational skills to complete assigned transmission line design work on schedule and to required quality standards.
  • Perform engineering calculations for transmission line support systems of moderate complexity, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Assist in the planning, detailed design, and construction management of transmission line projects from concept through completion.
  • Support root cause failure analysis efforts in collaboration with experienced engineers to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Work under supervision while building familiarity with engineering standards, utility construction practices, and transmission‑related terminology.
  • Participate in career development programs and professional organizations to enhance technical knowledge and professional growth.
  • Help maintain and update transmission line design standards, guidelines, and related information systems.
  • Assist with system restoration efforts during outages and storm events, including field support and coordination with operations teams.
  • Complete special projects that involve technical research, data analysis, and the development of recommendations for engineering or operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to identify, evaluate, and procure transmission line materials and equipment in alignment with project requirements.
  • Work closely with planning teams to implement transmission system improvements and ensure designs support long‑term system needs.
  • Coordinate with contractors and technical field teams to provide construction support, resolve design issues, and ensure adherence to design specifications.
  • Advise operations teams on system capabilities and functionality to support safe and efficient operation of the transmission network.
  • Prepare and provide project updates related to labor, costs, and vendor performance to support evaluation and purchasing decisions.
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including documentation, asset classification, and handoff of as‑built information to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Support activities related to right‑of‑way acquisition by providing engineering input and collaborating with internal and external partners.
  • Work with LiDAR data and other survey information to support accurate transmission line routing, design, and structure placement.
Essential Skills
  • Experience or coursework in high‑voltage transmission engineering and transmission line design.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations for transmission line support systems with moderate complexity.
  • Proficiency or strong aptitude in using AutoCAD for transmission line and structure design tasks.
  • Ability to work with LiDAR data to support routing, design, and field verification activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders in verbal and written form.
  • Understanding of utility‑related terminology and the ability to collaborate across departments such as project management, operations, planning, and accounting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct research, interpret technical data, present findings, and drive assignments to completion.
