Position Summary
Unlock Your Potential at the University of Dayton! The University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge composite materials research and development projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Work will be performed at a customer location in the greater Dayton‑Cincinnati region.
ActivitiesActivities aimed at proving a concept to be valid or technically feasible by the application of scientific and engineering methodologies. Work in this family typically has the objective of demonstrating through tests or analyses the performance and implementation potential of a concept. It also impacts the quality of own work and that of others on the team, executing standard operational/technical tasks subject to instructions and work routines, with latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete duties based on changing work situations.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- At least 8 years composites experience with full comprehension of conceptual or theoretical activities relating to the development, improvement, and usage of materials, coatings, and processes undertaken to build, apply, or shape the materials
- Knowledge of composites engineering to a level to execute policy/strategy; may include support roles with specialized technical fields of knowledge while acquiring higher level knowledge and skills
- Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work
- Good understanding of how the work of one's team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area
- Experience in polymer matrix fabrication and bonding
- Experience serving as a principal investigator
- Active security clearance
- U.S. citizenship, due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government
An R4 must meet all R3 minimum qualifications in addition to the following:
- At least 12 years composites experience
- Specialized expertise in composites lay‑up
- Supervisory experience
- Deep understanding of UDRI policies, procedures, and culture
- Demonstrated successful autonomous thinking and action
- Demonstrated excellent judgement
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to the future of UD and UDRI
- Successful record of publications in the field
- Successful experience designing, performing, and analyzing composite tests
- Ability to promote inclusive excellence in the workplace
