Position SummaryThe Aircraft Design Engineer is responsible for developing aircraft repairs and modifications, performing engineering analyses, and providing technical substantiation to support regulatory approvals. This role serves as a key technical resource for certification projects, customer initiatives, and internal operational departments. The position requires expertise in engineering documentation, project management, customer engagement, and cross‑functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop aircraft repairs, alterations, and modifications in accordance with applicable regulatory and customer requirements.
- Perform engineering analyses and prepare substantiating data to support certification and approval processes.
- Create, review, and maintain engineering drawings, reports, specifications, and other technical documentation.
- Provide technical support for certification activities, customer projects, and airline engineering initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including Component Repair & Overhaul, Heavy Maintenance, and Line Maintenance, to develop practical and compliant engineering solutions.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring schedules, budgets, and deliverables are achieved.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, providing technical guidance and project updates.
- Provide occasional on‑call support for operational issues and project‑related activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field; OR
- Associate degree in Engineering or a related technical field with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in an airline, OEM, or MRO environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Solid Works, or similar CAD/drafting software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with FAA and EASA Airworthiness Directives and Boeing/Airbus Service Bulletins.
- MBA or advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
- FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) designation.
- Previous management experience or formal leadership training.
- Knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 21, 23, 25, 26, 43, 135, and 145.
- Experience with process automation, software development, or computer programming.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to sit, stand, or work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders as required.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and crawl in aircraft maintenance environments.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and hearing protection.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
