The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program Aircraft and Pilot Systems Deputy Lead Engineer (NH-0861-04) to work for the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) in the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.

The incumbent serves as the Aircraft and Pilot Systems (A&PS) Deputy Lead Engineer in support of A&PS Lead Engineer and the A&PS Material Leader (ML) within the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter Program Office (JSFPO). The mission of the A&PS Branch is to develop and enable the delivery and sustainment of F-35 air vehicle systems that are affordable, reliable, and mission capable today and provisioned for tomorrow's fight.

The incumbent is responsible for assisting the A&PS ML and A&PS Lead Engineer in providing overarching leadership and management of the personnel and resources within A&PS and act as a liaison among all the AV IPTs and the rest of the JSFPO organization. The incumbent supports this effort by managing workflow, prioritizing tasks and coordinating between A&PS and other product teams, the prime contractor and such sub-contractors as necessary.

The incumbent also serves as the F-35A Flight Systems Chief Engineer, providing oversight and direction on all F-35A airworthiness and Systems Engineering efforts under the four Flight Systems supporting engineering disciplines:
Crew Systems, Flight Technology, Structures and Utilities and Subsystems. Provides support to the F-35A Chief Systems Engineer on all issues and efforts associated with Flight Systems Engineering.

• Manage and direct all Aircraft and Pilot Systems (A&PS) technical activities, represent the branch to JPO leadership, and coordinate closely with A&PS team leads and key stakeholders.
• Lead the completion and verify the accuracy of all F-35A airworthiness assessments and efforts required to support flight tests, production implementation, and retrofitting of new capabilities or corrective actions.
• Maintain appropriate staffing levels for all Flight Systems disciplines. Serve as the first-level supervisor for technical leads and second-level supervisor for all AFLCMC/WJ Flight Systems engineers. Oversee performance appraisals, training, mentoring, and resource allocation.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive engineering professional to join our team as the Deputy Lead Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the A&PS Material Leader and Lead Engineer in overarching leadership and management.

• Obtain & maintain a Security clearance
• This position requires travel (up to 20%)
• BS in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in the acquisition of military aircraft.
• 5+ years of experience as a subject matter expert in one of the following engineering disciplines:
  Crew Systems, Flight Technology, Structures, or Utilities and Subsystems.
• Experience in Airworthiness certification of military aircraft.
• Proven experience in team leadership.

MS in an associated engineering discipline; 15+ years in military aircraft acquisition; IPT leadership experience; and 10+ years of SME experience in two or more of the specified engineering disciplines).
