Equipment Applications Engineer in Dayton

The Applications Engineer is responsible for developing innovative, technically sound, and cost-effective automation concepts that meet customer requirements while supporting the organization's sales and business development efforts. Working closely with Sales, Engineering and other cross‑functional teams, this role analyzes customer specifications, evaluates technical feasibility, prepares preliminary system concepts and engineering documentation, and provides accurate technical input for project quotations. The Applications Engineer also identifies potential risks to help ensure proposed solutions are both practical and commercially successful.

Success in this role requires strong technical aptitude, analytical thinking, and the ability to manage multiple opportunities in a fast‑paced environment. The Applications Engineer serves as a trusted technical resource throughout the quotation and project handoff process, effectively communicating with both customers and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment, resolve technical questions, and deliver solutions that support customer success while reflecting the organization's commitment to quality, innovation, integrity, and operational excellence.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:

5+ years of experience in applications or mechanical engineering with three years of experience in estimating, project management, or sales administration in a technical industry

Additional skills:

• Ability to create technically feasible, economical equipment concepts from customer specifications consisting of varying levels of detail
• Ability to identify and account for potential risks (technical, budget, schedule, etc.) that may be encountered during the execution of quoted projects
• Ability to obtain and process information from internal and external resources in order to accurately estimate the labor and material costs required to execute projects being quoted
• A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of our customers’ products and manufacturing processes
• An understanding of the capabilities and benefits of the equipment being quoted—and the ability to effectively communicate those benefits to customers
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple customer opportunities simultaneously in an environment where priorities are constantly changing
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical audiences
• A strong customer service mindset, considering customer needs and concerns in decision‑making
• A disciplined, goal‑oriented personality with the creativity to provide and work with new ideas and approaches to design and processes
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, and 2D/3D design software
• Flexibility to travel, domestic and international, and work additional hours as needed to meet project requirements

• Develop technical concepts based on customer requirements provided by Sales Departments
• Evaluate technical feasibility in collaboration with specialist departments (e.g., automation, manufacturing, R&D)
• Prepare system layouts, configuration concepts, and preliminary engineering drawings
• Analyze customer specifications and requirement documents (provided by Sales)
• Provide technical input for cost calculation and validate material & engineering effort assumptions
